1979 SoCal modern home with vineyard asks $3M

By Loren Ro

Location: Camarillo, California

Price: $3,049,000

This modern home was custom-designed for the Daily family by award-winning architects Conrad Buff and Donald Hensman (aka Buff & Hensman) in 1979 and has been largely untouched since then.

Combining broad horizontal lines and square volumes, the 4,328-square-foot five-bedroom sits on over three acres in Camarillo, California, and includes a one-acre boutique vineyard producing Sauvignon Blanc and Chardonnay grapes.

The step-down great room is the focal point of the residence and boasts a double-height ceiling with expansive glazing and clerestory windows that usher in sunlight while creating a connection to the landscape. A towering fireplace anchors the living space, which is located on one end; a dining area is found on the other.

But it’s the details that make this a unique home: Here, two carpeted steps lead into the expansive living pit, whose floors are finished in pebbled concrete. A moat of larger of pebbles lines the perimeter, establishing a subtle link to the other natural materials used in construction, as well as to the surrounding Los Posas Valley.

A (recently updated) eat-in kitchen with floor-to-ceiling windows, generously sized bedrooms, a study, and other programs flow out from the great room. As for finishes, the dwelling incorporates gunite, redwood, teak, and other materials in neutral hues like white, ivory, and light gray.

With a few cosmetic updates and, perhaps, a new decorating scheme to take it out of the realm of the ’90s, the handsome house will continue to feel contemporary and fresh. Located at 774 Calle Del Norte, it’s offered at $3.05 million.
