Open House Obsession: Lovely c.1959 Ed Fickett With a Hollywood Pedigree, $2M

By Philip Ferrato

Where: 2775 Rinconia Drive, Hollywood Dell
When: Sunday, June 26 from 2:00pm-5:00pm
Asking: $1,995,000
What: A lovely c.1959 3-bed, 3-bath, canyon view home designed by architect Edward FIckett, a prolific MCM great whose whose light touch and dramatic spaces are undergoing a revival. Although substantially altered and updated, Fickett’s hallmark style is still evident in the expressive stone work, elegantly-proportioned rooms and high ceilings. Probably now best known for her three tumultuous marriages (Mickey Rooney, Artie Shaw, and Frank Sinatra) film star Ava Gardner (1922-1990) lived here in the ’60s.

Below, a front entry suitable for making grand entrances, descending into an equally grand living/dining room space that opens to a long balcony.

What We Love: Fickett’s wall of glass in the kitchen.

We can probably agree the recent master bath was not designed by FIckett (or used by Gardner) but that doesn’t mean it isn’t fabulous.

More: Check out the listing for additional images and details. Fickett’s homes are increasingly in demand– we don’t expect this one to stay on the market for long. Below, the intimate canyon outlook from the back of the house.
